A 1996 'Special Edition' Martin SP000-16T six-string acoustic guitar. With hardcase. Shows some dings and wear to body. Owned and played by John Martyn.
Condition report:
The overall condition of this instrument can be classified as ‘Good’ to ‘Very Good’. The most notable markings are found to the rear of the body, where the lacquer shows cracking and delamination, primarily to the bass side edge. The top shows indentation and scratching, consistent across the surface but most notable to the bass side of the waist. The fingerboard shows light scratching and pitting throughout the register, consistent with mild playwear. The top corners of the headstock show mild chips which expose the wood.
Originality and Modifications:
The serial number of this guitar dates it to 1996, with the sound hole label also stating that it is a 1996 Special Edition.
The guitar appears in completely original condition with no modifications apparent.
The SP000-16T Is a special edition of Martin’s popular 000 series guitars. It features an all-solid construction comprising a Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Indian Rosewood fingerboard with matching bridge. The ‘T’ designation in the model name stands for ‘Technology’ which refers to the then newly patented bracing and neck joint design. Modified ‘Snowflake’ abalone inlays are featured on the fretboard and bridge, along with an abalone rosette.
