A black, USA-made Fender Stratocaster six-string electric guitar with additional Roland pickup. Serial: N551051. With original Fender hard case adorned with 'No Motorway at Stonehenge' sticker.
Condition report:
The overall condition of this instrument can be classified as ‘Good’. The most notable markings are found to the bass side of the headstock, below the 6th E tuner where the wood is exposed in two places. The rear of the neck and fingerboard show consistent cracking and de-lamination of the lacquer. In some instances this exposes the wood, most notably to both edges of the fretboard, fairly consistent across the register. The fretboard markers appear discoloured due to the de-lamination of the lacquer. This is most apparent at the 9th fret marker. The body shows light scratching across all surfaces, and moderate scratching of the pick guard, with red scuff marks to the bass side of the middle pickup likely from use with a pick. The pickup switch tip is missing. The midi output has come away from the mounting plate and is loose inside the cavity.
Originality and Modifications:
The serial number of this guitar indicates that it was manufactured in the USA in 1995, with the model being available from ‘95 to ‘97. Later models were also produced in Mexico in the 2000s.
The instrument appears in original condition with no modifications apparent.
The Fender American Standard Stratocaster GR Roland Ready was one of the first collaborations between Fender and Roland, incorporating the tried, tested and timeless Stratocaster design with Roland’s GR synth pickup system. In addition to the standard Stratocaster pickup and control layout, a specially designed Roland GK-2A pickup is fitted between the traditional bridge pickup and bridge, allowing direct access to Roland’s GR series guitar synthesisers. Controls for the standard pickups are joined by a synth volume control, 3-way toggle switch and two push buttons to control the synthesiser functions.
Offered directly from John Martyn's personal collection and consigned to us by his family.
