My favourite DJ ever! Such a lovely man... I loved the way you just rock up to the BBC and ask for him... he would come and say hello and bring you up to his office for a chat. He was a big factor in our early success of both Joy Division and New Order, without a doubt. The tapes of his shows are great. A real trip down memory lane. I had a picture of him dressed as a St. Trinians schoolgirl on my bedroom wall from Sounds magazine in the early 70s... don’t ask me why. Was a great honour to play on John Peel Day, and an even greater honour to celebrate his birthday recently by playing ‘Homage’.
