The New Order microphone of choice, the M88 was found to be the best one suited for our vocal requirements. This one was used for both lead and backing vocals, from the early 80s and for many years after. We always did the vocals at the back of the control room for a sense of togetherness. Believe me, there is nothing worse than being in a vocal booth and doing what you think is a great take and then hearing the laughter and sarcastic comments in your headphones. Martin Hannett was a specialist.
