HILDA WETTON (1896-1980) - HAND DRAWN WINDMILL THEATRE SHOWGIRL COSTUME DESIGN - NELL GWYNNE. A fantastic original work by Hilda Wetton c1930s, famed designer of cabaret dancer costumes notably for performers in 'Showgirls' at the Windmill Theatre, Soho circa 1937. This example in pencil and watercolour, according to annotation by Wetton, modelled possibly on folk heroine Nell Gwynn, depicts a fashionable lady with a basket of fruit. The work (approx 18 x 31cm) on thicker stock is affixed to paper (27 x 44cm). Very good condition.
