A 6-string Martin DM Mahogany Dreadnought acoustic guitar with additional Vanden Mimesis pickup. Shows wear more pronounced to back of body. With additional strings and pack of cards surely collected during one of this guitar's many journeys with John. With hardcase adorned with flight/travel stickers. Stage used by John Martyn - see images.
Condition Report:
The overall condition of this instrument can be classified as ‘Good’. The most notable marking is found to the bass side of the headstock, beside the 5th A tuner where a moderate indentation is present, lightly cracking the finish. Further chipping and indentation is apparent to the corners of the headstock. The fingerboard shows mild pitting and indentation, most notably in the lower register. The rear face of the body shows mild chipping and scratching to the centre, consistent with moderate playwear. The top shows dark scratching to the lower bout, close to the treble side of the bridge.
Originality and Modifications:
The serial number of this guitar dates it to 1997. The Martin DM model is a Mahogany Dreadnought guitar with a Solid Sitka Spruce top, Laminated Mahogany back and sides, ‘Select Hardwood’ neck and Rosewood fingerboard with matching bridge.
The guitar appears in largely original condition with the only modification being the addition of a ‘Mimesis’ sound hole-mounted magnetic pickup, wired to an end pin jack socket. The pickup is functional but the output jack is unstable, cutting in and out if the cable is moved slightly
