ELVIS PRESLEY/ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY - FOUR ACOUSTIC TILES FROM THE ORIGINAL SUN STUDIOS.

Four acoustic tiles, each approx 30 x 30 x 1cm, taken from the walls of the original Sun Studios at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennesse by the vendor. Included with the original tiles are: contact sheet of images taken by the vendor during his visit to Memphis in 1970, a contemporary Sun Records poster print depicting Lewis, Perkins, Presley and Cash in front of the acoustic tiles in the studio (42 x 30cm), a framed print of one of the images taken by the vendor depicting the (then derelict) frontage of Sun Studios. Also included is a copy of 'Now Dig This' magazine (#426, Sept 2018) in which the vendor writes the fascinating tale of how he came to own the tiles.

In 1970 the vendor undertook a trip to Memphis (and across America) on a research trip for a book about rock and roll. On arrival in Memphis he found 'To Let' signs in the window of what had been Sun Studios. He called the number on the signs and managed to arrange a viewing of the site - finding the old acoustic tiles on the wall, he asked the young estate agent whether he might take some. In the vendor's words 'As heritage was a foreign concept to Americans and the future of the building seemed uncertain, I asked Mr. Aste for permission to remove four of the pale green..tiles.'
