An astonishing archive of 23 images, taken neat Reno, Nevada c October 1960 by the 'Charlotte News' columnist Emory Wister (1914-2007) on the set of 'Misfits' (1961). The slides (2" x 2" card mounted kodachrome colour transparencies) depict with astonishing colour and quality the stars of the film relaxing between takes inc Marilyn Monroe (in 15 of the images), Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift, John Huston. Mr. Wister did not publish or use any of the images during his lifetime and this is the first time they have been published. The condition of the slides is excellent and all are stored in the original Kodak slide trays. Also included is a copy of the book published by Mr. Wister 'The Charlotte News, Hollywood and Me' in which he remembers the day the image were taken 'I was on the set one cool October day and the set was what i like to call the alkali flats near Reno. A brisk wind was blowing, depositing a white powder on any and all who were there'.
Mr. Wister passed the collection of slides and photo logs on to the vendor following his death in 2007 and the images are offered here with full copyright from the vendor. Digital copies will also be provide to the winning bidder. A viewing of the full set of slides at the auction house is available to prospective bidders.
