BUDDY HOLLY - OWNED AND WORN BOOTS, A FULLY SIGNED POSTCARD, INTERVIEWS WITH PARENTS AND MORE.

A superb collection of Buddy Holly memorabilia, all obtained in person during a visit to Lubbock, Texas in October 1963. This lot includes:

  • A pair of men's suede boots by 'Lefcourt' owned and worn by Buddy Holly (see images for a picture of Buddy Holly wearing what are likely this same pair).
  • A Coral promotional postcard signed by Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison, Joe Mauldin,
  • Recordings made by the vendor to include interviews with Buddy's parents Ella and Lawrence as well as a fantastic recording of our vendor singing 'Peggy Sue' on Buddy's guitar in the presence of his parents (three 1/4" reels of Scotch tape with notes in the hand of Lawrence Holley to two of the boxes)
  • An early and original 7x5" black and white photograph stamped to reverse 'Jim Dallas Studio, Lubbock, Texas'
  • a handwritten letter from Buddy's cousin Sherry Holley with acknowledgement of the boots.
  • A stone, also owned by Buddy and obtained during the same trip.

Provenance: as a young man in October 1963 our vendor travelled to Lubbock, Texas in the hope of meeting some of his Rock N Roll idols. Armed with the address of Buddy's parents he managed to make an appointment and was collected from his hotel by Lawrence Holley. Over the next few hours, he talked with Buddy's parents (who were very enthused at our vendor's dedication in making the long trip) and recorded his conversations with them. Upon the conclusion of the interview, Buddy's parents presented him with a pair of boots owned and worn by Buddy, the stone as mentioned in the description above, the promo photo and a signed Crickets postcard. Buddy's parents relayed how the boots were purchased in NYC whilst with the Everly Brothers.

Sold for £5,000
