"Dear Philip,

I'm sitting in my hotel room in New York, reminiscing about the past, 'cause that what happens every time I come to this dirty lone rag of a city. Christopher told me you were ill so, even I though I have though fondly of you from time to time, I'm thinking of you now more than ever. It's difficult for me to be clever and consoling to someone whom I respect and whose shit detector is as highly tuned as mine. So I would just like to say that I think you're wonderful and the best thing is that dreadful movie we did together and I wish you every bit of happiness out of this life,

all my love,

Madonna'."

Provenance: originally consigned to auction by the family of Philip Sayer.
