Lot 242

THE BEATLES - A RARE ORIGINAL POSTER FOR BUXTON PAVILLION, APRIL 1963.

A very rare (thought to be the only example in existence), original concert poster advertising The Beatles and The Trixons at Buxton's Pavillion Ballroom on Saturday April 6th 1963. Famous photographs from this concert document the 'Beatlemania' effect in full force, with fainting fans being carried out of the venue whilst the band perform.

The poster measures 20 x 30". Receipts provided by the vendor document the restoration work done on the poster, which otherwise displays some creasing, losses to lower and corner portions (restored), some tape marks, some folds, some staining. The poster has been backed onto rice paper for added protection although this can be removed if the new buyer prefers it without the backing. Provenance: originally from the collection of Mr Dennis Brooke-Auty, entertainment manager at the Pavillion Gardens (with signed LOP from Mr. Brooke-Auty's son dated 2001), later purchased by an Alan Goldsmith (mentioned in LOP) and from there to the current vendor (with detailed email correspondence relating to the purchase in October 2002).
