YAMAHA DX-5 KEYBOARD, YAMAHA QX-1 SEQUENCER & ROLAND SYNC BOX SBX-80. Keyboard in original box Serial#:1638. QX-1 Serial#: 1193 and SBX-80 Serial#: 481281
In the mid to late 80’s we moved over to Yamaha Keyboards and Sequencers for a new sound and hopefully, a bit more reliability. They were used to great effect on many tracks ‘State of the Nation’, ‘All Day Long’ etc etc.., They were difficult to program and quite illogical... when we were in Japan recording, we actually managed to get our record company boss to contact his opposite number at Yamaha to get the head programmer to come over to the studio to talk about making some changes. A lovely young lady turned up but didn’t speak English. Our translator had to work very hard to get our problems across. After a while, she went into a long huddle with our translator and we thought... sorted! But turned around and then made to leave. We were like, “What did she say?” to the translator. ‘She said she is not a musician and doesn’t know what you’re talking about!” At this point our tour manager grabbed her hand and chased after the departing head programmer. We thought... sorted! When they came back he looked quite houndog and went and sat in another room... we were like, “WTF? What happened?” to the translator. “Well” she said, “He asked her out to dinner and she said no!”. Not Sorted!
